Out of 17 Senior Living Communities near Cleveland Oh
not one building offered fall prevention programs or balance
assessments
Out of 11 Senior Living Communities, a majority of them offered
exercise only 3 times a week, and all communities only offered
seated exercises!
When asked "How many here have fallen?" at least 90% of those
participating have fallen and at least half have fallen multiple times.
Out of 11 Senior Living Communities not one Activities Person who
was responsible for exercise had been trained in balance exercise or
anything other than a "Range of Motion" routine.
Out of 16 presentations of Balance Can Save Your Life, only 3 people
had ever had a balance assessment and it was after a fall.
Out of 11 Senior Living Communities,  only 3 actually had hand
weights and none of them had anything more than 1 pound weights.
Presentation Observations
Out of 11 Senior Living Communities, 4 staff members spoke up
during the program to remind them that because of their age, that
standing and doing exercise was probably too difficult for them.
Out of 16 presentations of Balance Can Save Your Life, not one
person, including staff members, knew how to properly execute "Sit
to Stand" or in other words get out of a chair.
This page is not to point the finger at any one person or community.  We
hope that these observations will let Senior Living Communities and those
assisting in the daily lives of our Senior Friends recognize where change
is needed to improve the quality of life for those they care about.
Only 1 facility had a room dedicated for fitness.  All other programs
took place either in the dining room or in the front lobby.  Both the
lobbies and dining rooms had high levels of traffic.
The average class size of daily exercise where the populations ranged
from 126 - 200 was 12.
