Nursing Home Politics - Don't let it get in the Way
If you have a concern and it seems like the facility's staff just keeps sending
you in circles and you never get anything resolved, this is a great example of
nursing home politics.  Politics are also taking place outside the nursing home  
with nursing home law, policies, and  government health care programs like
Medicaid.  When someone comes up with a great idea to improve the quality
of life for long term care residents, the nursing home lawyers are right behind
them, fighting them every step of the way.  Living in a long term care facility
shouldn't be so complicated.  As a society we should be doing everything
possible to insure a positive quality of life for our friends in long term care.
Politics:  to deal with people in an opportunistic, manipulative, or devious
way;  The often internally conflicting interrelationships among people in a
society;  social relations involving intrigue to gain authority or power; "office
politics is often counterproductive"
Voting is a basic right, and
yet many residents of long
term care do not get to
exercise their right.  What
can you do in the future to
make sure every person in
long term care facility is given
the opportunity to vote?  
Start today by contacting
your local Board of Elections
and ask about registering
long term care residents!
